what embr keeps.

your conversation
By default, while embr is open your conversation lives in the page in front of you. It is not written to your device and it is not saved to an account. Close the tab and it is gone. If you turn on keep my conversation in the app, it is saved to your account instead — encrypted, deletable, and described in its own section below.
To answer you, embr sends the conversation to our own infrastructure, generates a reply, and sends it back. That request is what makes the app work. It is not kept afterwards.
what we do keep
We keep an operational record of the fact that a request happened — when it occurred, how large it was, and which part of the product it came from. It is the kind of record any service needs to stay up, catch faults, and know it is not being abused. It does not contain what you said.
Tied to your account, we also keep a simple count of your conversations and, if you ever subscribe to a paid plan, your subscription state — active or not, and when it renews.
keeping your conversation (optional)
Off by default. If you turn on “keep my conversation” in the app’s tools menu, we store the thread so embr can pick up where you left off next time. It is encrypted before it is written, with a key that only embr’s own AWS infrastructure can use, and each account’s copy is bound to that account — it cannot be decrypted for anyone else. It is never used to train a model and is never handed to a treatment center.
Turning the setting off deletes it. Starting a fresh conversation replaces it. A conversation that has not been touched for 90 days is deleted automatically. Deleting your account deletes it too.
where it runs
embr runs on our own Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States (US West), under a Business Associate Agreement with AWS. The language model is Anthropic’s Claude, accessed through Amazon Bedrock inside that same account.
This was a deliberate choice. Earlier versions of embr ran the conversation through general-purpose hosting that carried no such agreement. We moved it precisely so the compute holding your words is covered.
we do not train on you
Your conversation is not used to train, fine-tune, or improve any model — ours or anyone else’s. It is not sold, rented, or shared with advertisers. There are no advertising or analytics trackers following you around this site.
signing in
An account is required to use embr — sign in with Google or email, handled by Firebase Authentication. We hold the account identifier it gives us so the app knows you are you. We do not receive your password.
paying for embr
embr for individuals is free during early access, and we do not take a card. If a paid plan is introduced and you choose it, payments are processed by Stripe: your card details go to Stripe, never to us, and we hold only the subscription state attached to your account — whether it is active and when it renews. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
If a treatment center covers your access, we record which center covers you instead of billing you directly. You are never charged individually for access a center provides.
if you are in crisis
embr is not a crisis service and no one is monitoring it for emergencies. If you are in danger, call or text 988— the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free and confidential, 24/7 — or see our crisis resources.
if your treatment center gave you embr
Where a treatment center deploys embr to the people in its care, that center is the covered entity and we act as its business associate under a signed agreement. That agreement governs what the center may see. It does not give the center a transcript of your conversation: by default no transcript is kept, and a conversation you chose to keep is yours alone — a center never receives it.
children
embr is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. Where a treatment center serves minors, that deployment is governed by the center’s agreement with us and its own consent process.
changes
If this changes, the date at the top changes with it. We will not quietly widen what we keep.
